 Jakarta (ANTARA) - Angklung Musical instruments have been officially recognized and affirmed by the UN agency, UNESCO, as the eyes of Indonesian culture that became the world's cultural heritage on 16 November 2010 at 16.00 local time in the session of UNESCO in Nairobi, Kenya.
"On 16 November 2010 in its meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, Unesco which consists of representatives of 147 countries have confirmed angklung as typical Indonesian cultural heritage in the world intangible heritage list," said Minister of Culture and Tourism (Minister of Culture), Jero Wacik, here on Thursday .
Inauguration angklung by the UN agency for Education, Science and Culture or the UNESCO as world cultural heritage that meant following a genuine Indonesian batik, wayang, kris and who previously had already been confirmed as a world cultural heritage from Indonesia.
According to Wacik, the inaugural angklung is a very good achievement because the struggle to pass the inaugural effort was very difficult.
"We need to collect historical documents proving that angklung is originated from Indonesia," said Wacik.
He said he managed to prove an important document that is one of them is an inscription which indicates that the angklung first time there and found in Sukabumi, West Java, in 1903.
Minister Wacik added, after the inauguration of the company would attempt to arrange a special conservation program for angklung in addition to other cultural heritage.
"Looking ahead after the official angklung confirmed then we have an obligation to preserve angklung, one of which we will do is enter angklung as one of the eyes that studied in the schools," he said.
On the same occasion, he also invites the public to recognize and preserve the angklung as Indonesia's cultural heritage.
After angklung, then it will propose the eyes of other cultures to be submitted to UNESCO for recognition of whom to tangible heritage that is the Saman dance from Aceh and Gede Line of Bali, while for the tangible heritage that is the Toraja and Bali Landscape.
Of the 11 world heritage Indonesia owned as many as four of them in the form of natural, three cultural preservation, and four works of intangible culture.
For the world heritage natural form consists of Ujung Kulon National Park, Banten, Komodo National Park, East Nusa Tenggara, Lorentz National Park, Papua, and the tropical forests of Sumatra (Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat and Bukit Barisan).
As for the nature reserve which the Borobudur Temple Complex which is recognized by UNESCO since 1991, Prambanan Temple Complex (1991), and the prehistoric site of Sangiran.
